Smart & Silky Hand Sanitizer

 

Hand sanitizer packaging tends to be very medical and utilitarian. But as the H1N1 outbreak makes its way through the population, the focus on prevention via hand cleansing has had another effect. People are keeping their sanitizers out on the counters and desks now.

 

Bernard M. Seid Best in Show Award, ESI Smart & Silky Hand SanitizerBecause of this, ESI went to TricorBraun requesting a package that would catch the consumer’s eye on the shelf and be good looking enough to keep on a counter or desk. ESI also wanted a tote size for purses and bags.

 

TricorBraun designed an unusual shape - not a square or a round - which stands out on the shelf. Its slanted edge in the front is unique and useful, designed with more space to get hands under the pump while dispensing the product. Plus, the shape gives it a stable base from which to dispense. The shape and label coloration do the same for tote size. While the taper is not as obvious, the fact that it is most likely being picked up to use instead of sitting on a counter, makes the ability to fit under the dispenser not as big a factor.

 

TricorBraun also worked with ESI on the graphic designs for the label and the idea to have the colored non-printed side of the label show through the clear product, even reflecting on the bottom of the bottle, giving clear SKU differentiation for the different products in the line. The package is also eye-catching, almost giving the appearance of a colored bottle.

Supre - SoTan Electric Bronze
Gold

Gold Winner - SoTan Electric BronzeFirst commercial launch using the vendor’s new “One Touch” closure! And that very easy-opening closure is an excellent choice for a tanning product. It makes opening and closing the package a truly one-handed operation.

 

Smooth, feminine rounded arms and legs – that’s what impression the package gives as you look at the elegant, curved lines of the bottle sweeping up to the meet the closure.

 

The oval base means more “billboard” area for the product info and the switch to the rounded shoulder means it meets the silhouette of the closure perfectly.

Monin - Le Fruit de Monin
Silver

Silver NACD Winner - Le Fruit de MoninExquisite taste has been accomplished with both Monin Gourmet Flavorings’ new line of fruit puree and the appearance of the bottles in which it is marketed. Using a Monin France bottle design, the distributor provided the one-liter, silver-colored, high-density polyethylene bottles that feature a long, textured, neck. The bottle’s shape provides a unique appearance and offers a slip-resistant grip for coffee shop baristas, restaurant chefs and bartenders. The customer was having problems with rocker bottoms after nitrogen dosing, so the distributor had to re-engineer the bottom parameters of the bottle in order to minimize that issue.

 

To address the company’s environmental commitment, the distributor and Monin abandoned cardboard shipping boxes and now transports these bottles in layer packed plastic bags.

 

The bottle’s function is enhanced with the customer’s patented 43mm polypropylene dispensing closure that can be activated with one finger and includes a no-glug feature.

Industrial/Commercial Division

CAF, Inc. - eXimo
Bronze

Bronze NACD Award Winner - eXimoThe distributor was able to help the customer reduce their carbon footprint several ways when supplying the customer’s packaging. They found a regional manufacturer to make the container, reducing energy emissions. The square package optimized cube for shipping. Then, the packaging helped the end consumer reduce their sustainability efforts because they switched from a screw cap to a flap dispensing closure with shaker end which allowed for better product dispersion.

 

The square container is also easy to grip, with its two indented panels and the switch from a white cap to a green cap ties in nicely with the green labeling.

Pharmaceutical/Drug Division

Purity Life Health Products - Vivitas Woman and Mom to Be Vitamins
Gold

Gold NACD Award Winner - VivitasThe rounded profile of a mother-to-be is one of humankind’s most unmistakable images, and the distributor worked with Purity to create that figure in the packaging for their lines of multi-vitamin supplements for women.

 

The shape of one of the bottles is the silhouette of a pregnant woman and the likeness is enhanced with the image of an expectant mother printed on a full-sleeve shrink label that is applied to the uniquely shaped container. The other bottle shape is the iconic hourglass shape representing a woman’s figure for the line of womens’ supplements.

 

Gold NACD Award Winner - Purity Life Mom to BeBottle concepts were provided by Purity. The distributor’s challenge was bringing these designs to fruition, creating a form that would hold a shrink sleeve label and orient it properly for the shrink label application. The bottom side needed a dramatic return into the base to maintain its hold on the sleeve. The bulb or high point on the lower bulge and it smaller inset base ellipse helped to increase the chance to keep the sleeve in place while at the same time added value to the end result form. The flip-top, full-orifice dispensing closure eases the access to the vitamins, which makes taking that one-a-day pill even more convenient, ensuring compliance all women and the mothers to be taking these supplements.
