Peoples Choice: Winner
Farouk Royal Treatment Hair Care Line
Farouk’s CHI Royal Treatment hair care line certainly got the “royal treatment” from TricorBraun, and rightfully so. The overall appearance of the package design is one of grace, class and opulence, from the elegantly tapered bottle design in a rich pearlescent color to the gold metalized closure. As well, the original-size package had to be redesigned by TricorBraun because of the many different size packages in the line.
But the real news is the closure, which gives a whole different meaning to the term “crown closure”. It is actually a twist open/close dispensing closure on the plastic bottles, with the opening cleverly designed into the top “jewel” of the crown. TricorBraun designed the revolutionary closure so that the customer didn’t have to settle for a standard dispensing closure on their “Royal.” line. Truly something special.

Chi Pet Best Friend’s Grooming Kit
This award went to the dogs – sort of. In this case, Farouk’s main business is manufacturing hair care products for salons, but they recently began to expand their products to include pet grooming items. For their Best Friend’s Grooming kit, an adorable package was created that looked like a fire hydrant! This whimsical, eye-catching concept had more than a little bite to it.
As far as how the idea was executed, a TricorBraun salesperson sent a photo of a fire hydrant to the TricorBraun Design & Engineering team, asking them to design something as close to the real thing as possible. He proceeded to do that and engineered the design so its detailed shape could easily be manufactured. The overcap completes the look by snapping over the dispensing closure. The package also had to be tall enough to accommodate the fine mist sprayer used on the detangler product, which it is. This package is truly a pet lover’s best friend.
Household Chemical & Automotive: Gold
Sevin Ready-to-Spray Bug Killer
Talk about “killer” packaging. Both the 16 oz and 32 oz squeeze & measure packaging that TricorBraun designed for Garden Tech represents the next generation in this category of design concept.
The bottle design takes the squeeze and measure oblong to a more eye-catching place, with its multiple curves and unusual label panel shape. The side with the squeeze tube carries on the curvature, for a striking visual appearance in this popular line of products.
There’s more. A view stripe incorporated on the opposite side has two benefits: First, it allows Sevin to use the bright red color yet still allow the consumer to see the product level in the bottle, Second, it assists the consumer in seeing the level in the measuring space.
There were some unique challenges, like getting the view stripe to blow mold such that both the bottle and measuring space can use the stripe, yet keep the look of the bottle at the top near the finish. Yet TricorBraun delivered. The design team also reworked the neck finish, changing it to 28 mm, which resulted in significant cost savings for Sevin.
A 32 oz hose end sprayer bottle completes the line, also boasting the dramatic curves on the label panel and the window stripe on one side. In addition, the product is ribbed on the opposite side for easier gripping.

Kama Sutra Impulse, Kama Sutra Co.
Who could resist loving this? This stimulating package was designed for women, with the sleek and beautiful motorized rollette. It is controlled by an off/off button on the base of the unit, and is the first of its kind in the Romance market.

Green Groom Shampoos & Conditioners, Senproco
Here's another design that, thankfully, went to the dogs.
Senproco is proud to state on their package that it is “natural, biodegradable, environmentally friendly” so it was important that the package also needed to be considered eco-friendly. TricorBraun designed and sourced the package accordingly.
The PCR-PET bottle is silkscreened to avoid the environmental impact of glue used to apply the label which can occur with some glues. It also features a faux acid etch decoration (the green spray in the pinched waist of the bottle) and is a FIRST in use on PCR. It has been only used on glass previous to this application.
The package itself was designed by TricorBraun with a pinched waist and using a disk-type dispensing closure that is oriented to the front. This enhances the user experience, making it easy to grip and dispense using one hand – helpful when holding onto a wet dog. The faux acid etch not only looks nice but the slight roughness makes the glossy package easier to hang on to.
All in all, a package that's a little bit like "best in show."

World Series of Poker, Alix Technologies
Was this package ever destined to be a winner? You bet! After all, what better way to attract the poker enthusiast than to come up with an energy drink in a package that looks like a stack of poker chips?
TricorBraun created several designs and the customer decided upon a simple cylinder with a closure that fits flush with the bottle shoulder. From there, a full-body shrink sleeve was printed to look like the chips themselves. So the customer has a bottle that is easy to manufacture, keeping it cost-effective. Also keeping the cost efficiencies in place is the fact that blank bottles can be held in stock and labeled with whichever of the nine flavors are moving most quickly at the time.

Farouk Royal Treatment Hair Care Line
In addition to winning the People’s Choice Award, the Farouk Royal Treamtment Hair Care Line also captured the Silver Award in the Pesonal Care category.
Food & Beverage: Bronze
The Original Moonshine Corn Whiskey, Stillhouse, Los Angeles
We’ll drink to this ingenious design! A glass jug retains the idea of the nostalgic, old-fashioned clay moonshine container while letting the customer know they are in for something different.
We’re talking a smoother, clear corn whiskey here, and in order to show that off, the concept of a glass jug simply fit the bill. It incorporates the old XXXX in the neck of the jug, but also includes product/company branding in other areas, as well.
Embossed around the bottom of the jug is “Stillhouse Moonshine” and the howling wolf symbol is featured on the shoulder. Oh, and then there’s bottom of the jug – the product name and wolf are branded on there too, so everyone can see what you’re drinking as you have it slung over your arm, taking a swig! No detail was left out of this classic package.
The idea here was also to let the consumer know that this liquor is not too sophisticated or untouchable, so the bottle’s flint glass has a more rustic look to it – not completely “gin clear” as most white liquors are, with some imperfections in the glass that are supposed to be part of the rough-hewn look.
