When a major wholesale club store chain first launched its new square offset neck milk jug, I thought …WOW. This is fantastic. Someone finally came off of square one with the design of the long lasting, center neck, plastic milk jug that has been around forever.
Since then, I have read nothing but negative comments, blogs, and articles about the pouring and function of the new design. Pouring milk, paint, or juice is not rocket science, but does require some 4th or 5th grade talent to do so without spilling.
As a user of the jug, I do agree with its pouring ability complaints. The neck’s diameter has been made too large, and because of the offset corner position, the first pour takes a bit of finesse. A few tweaks to this design could easily improve the pour feature and put this concept back on the shelf and back on the package design map as being a leading innovator in what has been traditionally an old-fashioned category.
Forward thinking. Forward progress. Keep at it.
