ST. LOUIS…TricorBraun has brought the best of all worlds together with a line of clarified polypropylene injection stretch blow molded (CPP-ISBM) bottles.
The primary advantage of the CPP-ISBM plastic bottles is that of moisture barrier properties. The CPP-ISBM bottles have the clarity and sheen of PET bottles but with a moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) 12 times better than that of PET and 2½ times better than that of HDPE. This, and many of the other characteristics of the bottle, are a result of the biaxial orientation of the material when blow molding the bottle.
The MVTR characteristics alone would be a reason to consider the bottle, but in addition to being a better package for moisture sensitive products, the CPP bottles cost less than PET bottles. And, for companies that wish to upgrade an HDPE line of packaging, the high gloss look in opaque colors comes at a small increase in cost from HDPE.
The package also does well on environmental scorecards because the CPP bottles typically run at a lighter weight than their pet counterparts, therefore offering source reduction. In addition, it takes less energy to manufacture the base resin and less energy to mold the bottles because the material does not require drying and is blown at a lower temperature.
