TricorBraun (St. Louis, MO) recently completed regulatory approval of their DryKeep™ desiccant polymer. DryKeep™ is commercially available. DryKeep™ employs a naturally occurring GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) desiccant and is available exclusively through TricorBraun. Drug Master Files on the compound have been granted by the FDA, and bottles molded with DryKeep™ have been granted USP 661 and 671 certification.
DryKeep™ absorbs 100 percent of its weight in water, providing three times more absorptive capacity than with other in-wall and loose desiccant systems, which aids in controlling protective packaging costs. DryKeep’s™ moisture uptake is controllable, allowing for specific internal humidity to be targeted and maintained for the entire life of the product. This absorptive control means containers don’t require anymore care than traditional bottles in the filling process to ensure that moisture capacity is intact. Since DryKeep™ is molded into the container, it cannot be discarded like standard desiccants, and product managers know their brand is protected.
Because of its unique properties, DryKeep™ can be molded into any polymer and utilized in any plastic process. DryKeep™ bottles are available in multilayer EBM and monolayer IBM formats in any size. DryKeep™, when injection molded, can be utilized in almost any part, including scoops used for powdered products and plates to replace breakable sachets or canisters in the mixing of hydroscopic powders. Blown into films, DryKeep™ can be utilized for protective pouches, bags and, potentially, blisters.
TricorBraun is one of the world’s leading suppliers of rigid packaging, and it has 33 offices in the United States, Canada and Asia.
